Originally from the San Juan Islands, Dorie studied architecture at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her work is inspired by nature, art, travel, antiques, and the California way of living. She is a member of the Institute of Classical Art & Architecture, the Association for Women in Architecture + Design, the California Preservation Foundation, the Los Angeles Conservancy, and the Santa Barbara Architectural Foundation. She is recognized locally for her dedication to animal welfare advocacy and her commitment to environmental sustainability.
